Description: Under the general supervision and direction of the Finance Director, the Accountant is responsible for assisting in the efficient administration of Township finances and other areas of Administration.
This position will provide accounting support to major functions including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, purchasing, payroll/HR functions, as well as, maintaining electronic and paper files.
Duties: An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Collects and compiles data and information for use in creating and preparing estimates, bills, reports, budgets, and other records.
Reviews and monitors all purchases under the direction of the Township's Purchasing Policy.
Collects and compiles data for Township pension plans and actuarial reporting.
Prepares and maintains records, files, charts, data, schedules, and similar information.
Balances reports to the General Ledger and prepares budget progress reports.
Reconciles accounts, statements, and transactions and performs related functions.
Serves as backup to Payroll/HR Payroll Administration.
Performs complex calculations and highly confidential entries as needed.
Possible preparation of confidential reports relating to union contract negotiations.
Assists with financial audits; prepares and reviews year-end accounting entries and financial statements.
Assists with budget preparation and budget monitoring.
Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
Performs related work as required.

Requirements include the following: A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
Two or more years in governmental accounting or finance; experience in governmental accounting a plus.
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and legal regulations of governmental finance and accounting.
Skill in communicating with all levels of personnel and with a high degree of diplomacy and professionalism.
Ability to assemble and analyze financial data, develop operating and capital budgets, and prepare comprehensive and accurate reports.
Skill in compiling and evaluating complex data and formulating policy and service recommendations.
Proficiency in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
Ability to use office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, and the ability to master new technologies.
Ability to gather data and prepare accurate and timely records, reports, notices, memos and letters.
Skill with conveying and understanding information effectively and promptly through speaking, hearing, reading, and writing.
Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with citizens, elected officials, employees, other governmental agencies and municipal professionals.
Ability to critically assess situations and solve problems, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and changes in work priorities.
