The City of Lansing is seeking an individual with knowledge of timekeeping, payroll, and onboarding practices to complete the hard working, driven Payroll and Benefit Division team within the City of Lansing Department of Human Resources office.
The selected candidate will perform a range of complex duties including maintaining and providing automated payroll related information for various City employees.
If you possess proficient knowledge in development and management of automated payroll systems, bookkeeping/accounting practices and general office procedures, as well as spreadsheet software, we invite you to be a part of our team! Qualifications for this position consist of: Associate’s degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping or a related field or two (2) years of college ANDThree (3) to five (5) years of experience in automated payroll accounting and benefits, which includes the use of spreadsheet personal computer software, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferredResponsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Processes and maintains the City of Lansing payroll system, for both active employees and all retirees, including all functions of payroll.
Ensures proper application of 8 bargaining unit contracts, 4 non-bargaining groups, Elected Officials, and District Court compensation and benefits.
Maintains the electronic payroll and human resources system such as OneSolution and NEOGOV.
Process new hires, terminations, promotions, and demotions.
Responsible for the set up and updating of tables in the payroll system, including but not limited to, pay schedules, pay rates, hour types, deduction types, and new payrolls at the direction of the Benefit and Payroll Administrator.
