Student Life and Engagement (SLE) is seeking a candidate with strong leadership, supervisory, planning, accounting, and financial analysis skills to lead a team of accountants.
The work pace is fast, responding to our supported partners’ business decisions, while complying with divisional and university process and policy requirements.
This position is part of a leadership team that directs and assesses our unit’s performance and institutes continuous improvements to workflow and process, while ensuring staff well-being and growth by upholding divisional values.
The position audits staff work to ensure accountability, compliance to process, standards, and policy.
The position has responsibility for the development and leadership of assigned staff.
Additional responsibilities are project management and process development and review, including gap analysis.
Our team supports SLE’s Culinary Services and Auxiliary Sports Group Departments with combined revenues of $200 million.
This position is located in the 1855 Place building in East Lansing, Michigan.
Work Hours:
Monday – Friday: 8 hours/day
Night and weekend work may be required to fulfill job responsibilities or in support of divisional objectives.
Position is currently remote-friendly after competency in role and tasks and with supervisor approval.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status.
In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension.
If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Desired Qualifications
Five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in responsibilities related to the position summary.
Five to eight years of supervisory work experience.
Proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
