This position serves as the Accountant I for externally funded research awards within the Food Security Group of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics; Job duties include processing and applying a variety of payment mechanisms (Professional Service Contracts, Disbursement Vouchers, Travel Expense reports, Purchase Requisitions, etc.

) for large international research grants; Provide financial management of in country research offices (IMPREST funds), Verification all expenses are done in accordance with applicable federal, state, local, and university policies, procedures, and regulations; Provides information on and interprets budget and expenses for research funds; Provides financial reporting on all awards as needed; Procurement for group expenses; Other administrative duties as assigned.
This position is hybrid friendly working both on and off campus on a scheduled basis.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial statement and report preparation, general ledger accounting and budgeting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting or Business Administration; exceptional organizational skills; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, auditing, or financial analysis, financial statements, accounts payable, and report preparation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with externally funded grants and contracts preferably USAID or US Federal funding, MSU policies and procedures; excellent written and oral communications skills; and experience with bookkeeping or accounting.
Should be self-motivated and willing to learn complex tasks.
