This position will report to the SLE Chief Financial Officer, in the Business and Financial Services unit.
This position will have fiscal officer duties over multiple designated accounts within SLE, primarily reserve accounts, and plant accounts established for projects with individual budgets over $25,000 with a total value of millions of dollars in all project accounts, in addition to some operational and endowment accounts.
This position must be comfortable leading projects while remaining inclusive with a variety of assignments.
Basic Function and Responsibility Assists in short and long-term financial, procedural planning for the department, program, unit, or major administrative unit.
Manages accounting and operational activities and prepares financial statements and reports.
Implements decisions through the Divisional plant cash account process.
Responsible for account openings and closings, funding transfers, accounts payable, purchasing, account reconciliation and oversight, and administers Accountant duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as a senior member of the SLE Business and Financial Services unit to assist in planning, reviewing, and implementing SLE policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
Serves as a Divisional liaison with IPF Capital Project Accounting, Financial Analysis, SLE Planning & Projects Office, ISPM, to exchange information related to policy and process updates and strategize on efficiencies to benefit the division.
Ability to effectively work with people from diverse backgrounds including but not limited to racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, generational, linguistic, LGBTQIA+, and gender differences.
Processes finance actions in EBS and SAP for cost distribution, purchasing, contracts and distribution and expense, internal billings, and request for proposals.
Works on organizational initiatives and various projects related to business and financial services for the division.
Prepares reports for SLE leadership as needed.
Represents BFS at various meetings and committees as assigned, including but not limited to the Planning and Projects Committee and interview teams.
Provides support to BFS Finance Directors as needed.
Other Business and Financial services projects and duties as assigned.
Provides backup support to other BFS and Divisional Team members as needed.
Interacts with: Managers/Supervisors/Co-workers - to exchange information, interpret financial data, coordinate activities, report the status of projects, and propose procedure improvements.
University Staff - to provide direction and resolve problems, answer questions, and exchange information.
Vendors for procurement.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status.
In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension.
If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Desired Qualifications Proficient in Excel and Enterprise Business System (EBS).
May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
