Job Title: Staff Accountant Reports to: Accounting Supervisor Work Location: Lansing, MI Base work schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, Full Time Compensation: $22.
63/hr.
Plus benefits.
General Responsibilities: Responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial reports and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
Responsible for bi-weekly payroll and payroll administration.
Maintains and processes records in compliance with regulatory agencies.
Responsible for reconciling all agency bank accounts.

) Finalizes and reconciles the accounts payable process.
Serves as back up for processing.
Administers and performs all payroll processing.
Acts as liaison with payroll vendor.
Prepares, monitors and reconciles funding sources and accounts receivable.
Serves as Petty Cash Custodian.
Prepares journal entries and posts to the general ledger with proper authorization.
Codes revenue based on appropriate distribution, funding sources and cost accounts.
Assists with monitoring department electronic files including ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Responsible for preparing and processing Accounts Payable documents for electronic storage.
Responsible for maintenance of Finance Department records in storage including preparing documents for storage and reviewing and submitting records for destruction.
Responsible for monitoring TCOA records in storage to include ensuring new items are properly documented in the system and notifying departments of records that are available for destruction.
Serves as backup for daily cash receipts and deposit processing.
Processes work in a manner that creates a complete and evident audit trail.
May assist with audit preparation as needed.
Compiles and prepares reports for audit compliance and assists auditors as needed.
Assists in the preparation of various monthly, quarterly and annual reports as needed.
Creates, maintains and distributes various reports, spreadsheets and databases.
Completes updates to the allocation spreadsheet.
Conducts contractor financial assessments, serves as backup for processing reports.
Tracks assets and equipment and updates insurance as appropriate.
Attends Board of Directors meetings and prepares meeting minutes.

Ability to represent the Agency in a professional manner.
Must be able to adjust priorities to meet deadlines in a timely manner.

Working knowledge of budgets, financial resources and accounting principles.
Ability to meet department standards with regard to job knowledge, client focus, initiative, productivity, communication, teamwork and attendance.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required.
Two years experience in an accounting environment is required.
Experience in a non-profit environment is preferred.
Experience & knowledge of Accounting Software and Microsoft Office products.
Working Conditions: The work environment is a typical office setting.
Safe work practices in regard to office equipment, avoiding trips/falls and fire regulations are required.
Physical mobility is required for sitting, walking, standing, bending and lifting/holding/carrying objects of up to 20 pounds.
Ability to enter and access information using a computer.
Must be able to communicate effectively with clients, co-workers volunteers and vendors in person and over the telephone.
Sensory requirements include exposure to uniform temperatures, conversational noise levels and everyday office activities.
Mental requirements include the ability to handle varying levels of stress.
