The City of East Lansing, Michigan, a residential community of 48,500 people and home to Michigan State University, is seeking an Assistant Treasurer.
This is a responsible and professional position with the Finance Department and reports directly to the City Treasurer.
This position will assist in directing, managing, supervising, and coordinating the activities and operations of the Treasury Division; this includes performing complex analyses; preparing bank reconciliations, and audit schedules.
This position assists and oversees all aspects of property tax billings, including delinquent collections; water and sewer billings including account maintenance and adjustments; and credit and debit card account maintenance and charge backs.
Additionally, the incumbent will oversee treasury staff in a union environment and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Treasurer and Finance Director.
Qualifications
Three years’ experience as an accountant (preferably fund accounting), reconciliation skills, and some supervisory experience required.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred but may be substituted with equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
Experience using BS & A Software and New World System products preferred.
Special Requirements
Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment and computer equipment, with proficiency in Excel spreadsheet programs.
Must be able to prepare and present clear and concise reports, verbally and in writing, and work effectively with customers.
