Position Summary: Compliance Auditors perform professional internal auditing work, with a focus on conducting compliance audit projects, providing consulting services to organizational management and staff, and providing input to the development of the annual internal audit plan; all with emphasis on a risk-based approach designed to assist management in the attainment of their objectives.
Compliance Auditors are expected to maintain all organizational and professional ethical standards and ensures Internal Audit activities are carried out in compliance with The IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards).
Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Compliance Auditor I Assist in the identification and evaluation of the organization’s compliance audit risk areas and provides moderate input to the development of a risk-based annual Internal Audit plan; assist in creating and maintaining audit programs; participate in planning the audit scope and testing of each assigned audit Perform various compliance audit procedures, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analyzing evidence, and documenting client processes and procedures Collaborate with the Credit Union’s Compliance Department, as needed, to provide input in the development of the Credit Union's regulatory compliance program and serve as a resource for compliance related questions and issues that may arise from various areas throughout the Credit Union.
Stay informed of all laws, regulations, and other information that affect the Credit Union’s operations; determine whether internal controls are adequate to ensure compliance with Credit Union goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and applicable laws/regulations while maintaining economical and efficient use of resources Conduct interviews, review documents, develop and administer surveys, compose summary memos, and prepare working papers Identify, develop, and document audit issues and prepare recommendations for improvement; discuss deficiencies, recommend corrective action, and suggest improvements in operations to achieve organizational efficiencies and maintained regulatory compliance Assist in communicating the results of audit and consulting projects via written reports and oral presentations on a timely basis to management, the President/CEO, the Supervisory Committee, and the Board of Directors Assist with compliance by researching information pertaining to compliance regulations and assists in training staff on compliance regulations Perform related work as assigned by Internal Audit management Pursue professional development opportunities, including external and internal training and professional association memberships, and shares information gained with co-workers Maintain productive team-oriented client, staff, and management relationships through individual contacts and group meetings Assist in the efficient operation of the Internal Audit department as directed by the Internal Audit management in order to assist the NCUA and external auditors to expeditiously complete their assignments Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned Compliance Auditor II All of Compliance Auditor I duties and responsibilities Assist in the identification and evaluation of the organization’s compliance audit risk areas and provide significant input to the development of a risk-based annual Internal Audit plan; assist in creating and maintaining audit programs; participate in planning the audit scope and testing of each assigned audit.
Independently research and report on a variety of audit issues Performs all tasks consistently and effectively Senior Compliance Auditor All of Compliance Auditor I and II duties and responsibilities Assist with conducting investigations regarding employee, member, or outsider fraud; act as liaison with law enforcement agencies regarding investigation and resolution of cases.
Gather supporting documents, examine available evidence, obtain and pursue leads, and interview interested/involved parties in preparation for possible submission to law enforcement Independently plan, perform, and complete audit projects Assist and mentor team members with less experience in expert areas Review audit work papers completed by team members with less experience in expert areas Participate consistently in Credit Union committees and projects Performs all tasks consistently and effectively Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Compliance Auditor I A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in accounting or finance A CPA, CIA, CFE designation or active pursuit of one such designation is preferred Knowledge of regulatory compliance, financial crimes, and fraud related issues affecting Credit Unions required Knowledge of the Standards and Code of Ethics Knowledge of contemporary risk management and control techniques and working knowledge of contemporary control frameworks Knowledge of control and risk self-assessment facilitation techniques Knowledge of management information systems terminology, concepts, and practices Knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws Familiarity with the common indicators of fraud Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems, and drawing logical conclusions Extensive skill in planning and project management, and in maintaining composure under pressure while meeting multiple deadlines Skill in negotiating issues and resolving problems Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, systems documentation, audit packages, and other business software to prepare work papers, reports, memos, summaries, and analyses Considerable skill in effective verbal and written communications, including active listening skills and skill in presenting findings and recommendations for improvement Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, staff, and external contacts, and work effectively in a professional team environment Compliance Auditor II All of Compliance Auditor I knowledge, skills, and abilities Obtained or is successfully working towards obtaining relevant professional certification, such as the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimal direction Ability to use independent judgment and take initiative in the absence of specific direction from Internal Audit management Extensive knowledge of and skill in regulatory compliance, financial crimes, and fraud related issues affecting Credit Unions required Considerable knowledge of the Standards and Code of Ethics Considerable knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws Demonstrate the ability to accept increasingly complex duties and responsibilities and perform those additional duties to a satisfactory level Senior Compliance Auditor All of Compliance Auditor I and II knowledge, skills, and abilities Obtained a relevant professional certification, such as the Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) Ability to assist with the training of other staff on the basics of Internal Audit at the Credit Union Ability to analyze complex problems and perform research in order to provide value-added recommendations for improvement Expert knowledge of and skill in regulatory compliance, financial crimes, and fraud related issues affecting Credit Unions required Expert knowledge of the Standards and Code of Ethics Demonstrate trustworthiness and ability to handle increasingly confidential audit projects Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of audit concepts and Credit Union operations Expert knowledge of industry program policies, procedures, regulations, and laws Physical Demands and Work Environment: May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
