Description:
Summary: This position is responsible for generation of accurate payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees, which includes calculating and verifying time sheets and control sheets, entering data on time worked and benefit time taken, and problem solving related to payroll processing.
The position may have overall responsibility for payroll processing, or may be assigned responsibility for a portion of payroll such as specific schools or divisions.
Essential Functions
Process timesheets and perform data entry to generate semi-monthly payroll.
Generate reports and perform quality checks and other verification to ensure the accuracy of data entry.
Audit payroll on a regular and as-needed basis to ensure the accuracy of paychecks, payroll process, budget coding and employee file records in HRIS.
Make manual adjustments and perform special calculations when needed.
Coordinate leave of absence processing with Benefits area.
Organize work to meet regular recurring deadlines.
Respond to employee and managerial inquiries; resolve problems or work with other areas of TLG to resolve problems.
Work closely with others in HR, school employees, and external vendor(s) to ensure that HR actions are processed timely and correctly, and that problems are resolved promptly.
Respond to requests for verification of employment or similar inquiries.
Assist in annual tax processing and other annual or recurring assignments.
Perform periodic audits of time off accounts and coordinate annual payouts.
Comply with records retention policies; file and organize Payroll materials; prepare records for destruction as scheduled.
Create clear documentation and audit trails related to Payroll.
Perform, or assist in performing, payroll-related reconciliations.
Respond to, or assist in preparing responses to, mandated reporting such as SERS, STRS, REP and EEO-1 reports.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of professional practices in the area of Payroll.
Support other areas of Human Resources as assigned.
Perform filing and other clerical duties as assigned to support the overall H.
R.
department.
In all areas, maintain the confidentiality of employee data and take active steps to safeguard against inappropriate sharing of information.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
General knowledge of Payroll and general business practices, as acquired through two years or more of experience.
Knowledge of HR and/or Payroll practices in an educational or school setting desirable but not required.
Familiarity with pay data entry in an automated system (Paylocity preferred).
Excellent attention to details.
Training or experience providing basic clerical expertise; able to type, file alphabetically, and use office equipment effectively.
Good proficiency in using Google Suite.
Good communications skills, including the ability to compose routine correspondence, communicate effectively by telephone and in person, work cooperatively with others inside and outside the organization on HR issues, and resolve routine problems and disputes.
Good ability to coordinate multiple tasks and priorities; able to organize work to meet expectations for timeliness and quality, even during periods of peak workload.
Skills and knowledge as acquired through a high school education; college level coursework preferred.
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality with respect to employee information.
