Description: The Payroll Tax Specialist for the charter school management company is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll tax processing, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
They will work closely with the finance and HR/payroll department to ensure the accurate and timely disbursement of employee compensation while managing tax liabilities.
Requirements: Key Responsibilities: Payroll Tax Processing: Accurately calculate, process, and distribute payroll taxes for all employees, including corporate employees, teachers, administrative staff, and other school personnel.
Ensure that payroll tax deductions, such as federal and state income taxes, Social Security, and Medicare, are withheld and remitted in accordance with tax regulations.
Tax Compliance: Stay current with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations that impact payroll processing.
Ensure the school's compliance with tax laws by filing payroll tax returns, such as Form 941 and state-specific tax forms, accurately and on time.
Handle tax inquiries and audits, collaborating with tax authorities when necessary.
Reporting and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of payroll tax-related information, including forms, reports, and payment receipts.
Generate payroll tax reports for management, auditors, and government agencies.
Benefit Deductions: Administer and manage employee benefit deductions, including retirement contributions, health insurance, and other deductions, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Communication and Education: Communicate with school employees to address payroll tax-related questions or concerns.
Educate staff on payroll tax policies and procedures and assist with tax-related inquiries.
Technology and Software: Utilize payroll software and accounting systems to process payroll taxes efficiently and accurately.
Recommend and implement improvements to existing payroll tax systems and processes.
Collaboration: Collaborate with the school's HR department to ensure that employee information is up-to-date and accurate for tax purposes.
Work closely with the finance team to reconcile payroll tax expenses with the general ledger.
Cross training with HR department personnel to ensure a broad understanding of the systems and processes in place.
Problem Solving: Resolve payroll tax discrepancies and issues as they arise, working to prevent future errors.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (preferred).
Professional certification in payroll or accounting (e.
g.
, Certified Payroll Professional - CPP) is a plus.
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Proficiency in payroll software and accounting systems.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in payroll processing, preferably in an educational setting, is beneficial.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
